Sorry it has been so long. Mainly the delay is owed to a serious case of food poisoning. We attended the Santa Fe International Folk Art Festival, and I believe we had some contaminated food. Luckily my son did not eat much. My husband and I bore the brunt of it, but we have recovered and are fine. I’m in San Diego right now visiting my parents. My father has had some health problems, so we took the opportunity to come out before we might miss our chance given the winter and other issues.
Despite emotional and physical havoc, I have done SOME writing. Though not much. The novel is progressing, slowly. The big exciting news is that I finally GOT PAID! I received my first royalty check last week from SFA Press. Yay! I made a copy and will keep it forever and ever. I have also been receiving some good rejections from One Story, A Public Space and Missouri Review. Two of them are for the same piece, the very long story (“Recovering Basquiat, or “Discovering Basquiat” depending on the version).
Do you read more when you are unable to write? Since I haven’t been able to get on the computer as much, I have been reading more. To me that is work too, and sometimes it is all you can do.
