Last Thursday, I went to the monthly Dimestories event in Albuquerque. It is the only open-mic I know that is exclusively for prose. I read a piece titled, “The Pinocchio Syndrome,” about a world that ceases to lie. It was a very stimulating evening. A newcomer read a fantastic piece paralleling the strength of the river with a boy who’s becoming a man. I listened to a memoir bit about the roles that parents play, and what happens if one parent has died? How has the role shifted, and what does that mean for the recipient? All the stories were delightful: three-minute immersions into the beauty of the written word.
My women-only get-together was a success. Only ladies I personally know came, so it was very intimate. I was able to learn more about these literary women, as well as learn more about writing and craft. I had a great time.
